The 100-meter-long ferry will be launched into the water

Muharrem Sürmen, who said that they decided to continue their investments in order to contribute to the country's economy in these difficult days, said that they ordered a ferry 100 meters long and 22 meters wide, designed by Ayden Marine, Ro-Ro, the leading domestic ship engineering software and design firm of the maritime industry. He said that his ship will work on the South-North Marmara line.

Shipbuilding

Muharrem Sürmen, Chairman of the Board of SS Erdek Marine Motor Carriers Cooperative, stated that the steel plates of the ferry that will be built in Yalova Türkoğlu Shipyard have supplied and they are expecting the blocks will be built and connected each other one month later. Stating that the ferry designed by Ayden Marine will have the latest technology, Muharrem Sürmen said, “We are building this ferry on behalf of SS Erdek Marine Motor Carriers Cooperative. We feel happy because we made such an investment in this recession period. 1500 tons of production material of the ferry has supplied. Pre-production started in the shipyard. We think that the blocks will be prepared and connected side by side one month later. We are planning to complete it in about 12 months.”

We became life buoy

Sürmen said, “We know that investing in these periods is an important responsibility. It is very important to be a lifeline for our industry in these stagnant periods. We should encourage people. The investments are more valuable during such crisis periods in the world. We are building it in our country's shipyards so that we can contribute to the Turkish economy. I hope it will be beneficial to our country. We will do it with our equity. Of course, we can use a small loan if we cannot afford. We invest in our business. We are not afraid, we do not give up, we continue our way. We invest in what we earn from the sea again. Of course, it is also important to be cooperative here. We are making this investment as a cooperative. We were going to make these investments before, but this is the right time now. Everything happens for a reason. This investment is a hope for employees, sub-industry and shipyard, it is able to breathe freely. It includes many items. It also contributes to many sub-sectors. It seems to me that it is very appropriate to invest in crisis periods when there is a recession in the sector.”

Everything will be very good after these bad days

Sürmen said, “We proceed by looking into our finances. Of course, there is a 40-50 percent decline in our works, but we do not care about this. We have taken these troubles for our country. Work is not always done while making money, and you have to do business when you don't make money. We are really proud of creating a new employment area while many company’s employees are being made redundant in the market. We are doing the opposite in this unemployment period with this investment. While this ship is being built, 150-200 people will work. This employment will continue for at least 10 months. We are not pessimistic. We have survived neither crises nor bad things. As long as the sun rises, everything will always be fine. Everything will be very good after these bad days. God willing, we will overcome. Even though our jobs are not so good, our line is working now.”

We always continued our struggle

Muharrem Sürmen said, “We cut our teeth on this sector. We come from the center of work. We are not like the non-sectoral businessmen who have money. We don’t leave our business when the sector is not well. There were times when we made money and when things were bad, but we always continued our struggle. This is our profession. We do this work with many of our partners. 150-200 people work with us. Box office staff, captain, office worker, oiler etc. we work with many of our valuable friends. We are doing this job with sacrifice and as a kind of public service. We have ships on many lines such as Tekirdağ-Bandırma, Tekirdağ-Erdek, Marmara-Avşa, İstanbul-Bandırma. Currently, we have 11 ships as a cooperative. We have been doing this business for more than 20 years. We give all our experience and energy to this business.“

It is a fully-equipped ship

Providing information about the new ship's equipment, Sürmen said, “It is a fully-equipped ship. It is a first class ship with its elevator, passenger lounges, comfort, treats and recreation areas. Classified by Türk Loydu. Luxury and safe. There are masjid, rest room, children's areas. This new ship is completely disabled-friendly. With all its functions, it also offers the opportunity to use for the disabled. In this respect, we are very pleased. It will serve as a 2021 model. It will work on the same South-North Marmara line.”
